Helium is a decentralized machine network powered by a physical block chain. The network is created by gateways who also double as miners on our network.
These gateway operators can earn tokens based on coverage they provide as well as transaction fees gained from machines connecting to their gateway.
HELIUM History / Information / Buying / Staking
Helium was founded in 2013 by Shawn Fanning, Amir Haleem, and Sean Carey, with a mission to make it easier to build connected devices. Helium believes that today's wireless connectivity options are wholely inadequate for the next generation of machines. To solve this they developed the Helium Hotspot, a combination of a physical blockchain node and wireless gateway that network participants can deploy to receive compensation in HNT, the native token.
HOW HELIUM WORKS
As part of Helium’s unique approach to the market, the developers introduced a new concept called WHIP. WHIP is an open-source and standards-compliant wireless network protocol. Uniquely, it was designed to run on existing commodity radio chips available from dozens of manufacturers with no proprietary technologies or modulation required. These networks operate as DWNs (decentralized wireless networks).
BENEFITS OF USING HELIUM
Some of the benefits of using Helium are:
Helium’s blockchain offers a decentralized format that grows with more access points at a cheaper rate.
Helium ensures that all communications on the blockchain have end-to-end encryption, making it best suited for sensitive information.
The platform makes it simple for developers to integrate new hardware and software solutions.
The network processes one block every 70 seconds. These blocks hold around 140 transactions per block.
CAN YOU STAKE HELIUM
To run a validator requires a stake (deposit) of 10,000 HNT and running validator node software in a suitable environment. In return for staking, users contribute to network scalability and earn HNT rewards.
